Management network cabling

IMPORTANT:

Connect frame link module LINK ports to frame link module LINK ports only. Do not connect LINK ports to a data center switch.

NOTE:
For high availability:
  • Install the two HPE Synergy Composers in separate frames.

  • Connect a minimum of two MGMT ports from separate frames in each management ring to the management network.

  • Connect the MGMT ports from the frame link modules in the same frame and bay number as the HPE Synergy Composers to the management network

NOTE:

HPE Synergy frames can be connected as part of a management ring up to the maximum number supported. For more information on the number of frames supported in an HPE Synergy solution, see the product QuickSpecs (http://www.hpe.com/info/qs).

Cabling the management network includes:
  • Cabling frame link module LINK ports together to form a management ring (frame link topology).

  • Cabling at least two frame link module MGMT ports to the management network.

A management ring (frame link topology) is created by connecting frame link module LINK ports together. Frames in a management ring are managed by one instance of HPE OneView. The frame link topology (management ring) can be viewed in HPE OneView. To view the frame link topology, navigate to OneView > Enclosures > <enclosure> > Frame link topology.

A primary management ring (primary frame link topology) includes HPE Synergy Composers. A remote management ring (remote frame link topology) is a single or multiframe management ring without HPE Synergy Composers. A primary and remote management ring cabling example is shown in "Three primary enclosures (frames) connected to two remote enclosures (frames) cabling example".
