The Aruba OfficeConnect Wi-Fi Portal provides daily usage data for the different types of applications and websites accessed by clients in the network.
An application is a program or group of programs that allows end users to perform specific tasks or activities on devices such as computers and smartphones.
Desktop Applications—Programs that allow users to perform specific tasks or activities on computers and laptops. Examples include Microsoft Word and Paint.
Mobile Applications—Programs that allow users to perform specific tasks or activities on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Examples include Google Maps and Instagram.
Web Applications—Programs that allow users to perform specific tasks or activities through web browsers such as Chrome or Internet Explorer. Examples include Yahoo! Mail and Chase Online Banking.
Application categories are used to classify and group applications together based on shared characteristics.
Applications are grouped into the following categories:
Recreational applications include websites on personal activities and interests. For example, sports and traveling.
Enterprise applications include websites on professional and information services that are helpful for working environments. For example, financial and legal services.
Internet tool applications include tools and services for Internet navigation and usage. For example, search engines and cloud storage.
Shopping applications include websites for online shopping. For example, online retailers and online auctions.
Restricted content applications include websites with sensitive information or graphic content. For example, weapons or gambling.
Adult content applications include websites with graphic adult content or illegal subjects. For example, pornography and drugs.
Military and government applications include websites on military and government information and services. For example, federal agencies and local governments.
Social applications include websites for social networking and media. For example, blogs and news publications.
Game and streaming applications include websites for online gaming and video streaming.
Local network
The Local network category includes the internal sites hosted locally in your private network.
High security risk applications include websites that contain known malicious Internet tools that can harm devices and damage the internal network. For example, botnets and torrents.
Uncategorized applications include websites that cannot be grouped under any of the categories described in this list. For example, dead sites and parked domain names.
