The HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller, the first SATA Smart Array Controller available from HP, has different features and functionality than other Smart Array Controllers. The Details section of this Notice provides information on the differences and lists additional resources available for customers with this controller in their computing environment.
DETAILS
The HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller is the first SATA Smart Array JBOD controller available from HP. It is embedded in the ProLiant servers listed below.
The HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller supports SATA drives only. For the most efficient use of drive space, all drives within an array should have approximately the same capacity. Each configuration utility treats every physical drive in an array as if it has the same capacity as the smallest drive in the array. Any excess capacity of a particular drive cannot be used in the array. Therefore, the capacity is unavailable for data storage. The more physical drives that are in an array, the greater the probability that the array will experience a drive failure during any given period. To reduce the risk of data loss that might occur when a drive fails, configure all logical drives in an array with a suitable fault-tolerance (RAID) method. This controller supports RAID 0, 1, and 1+0, and a maximum of 2 logical drives.
Features of the HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller:
- First SATA Software Smart Array controller
- Uses the ICH10R controller in Intel servers
- Supports up to 4, 1.5G or 3G SATA drives
- Supports enabling Drive Write Cache (DWC)
- Drives can be migrated to Smart Array controller
- Dynamic Sector repair: automatically rewrite defective logical blocks
- Drive pre-failure notification (S.M.A.R.T.)
- Auto-Reliability Monitoring (ARM)
- HDD Flashing (offline drive flashing)
- Asynchronous Event Notification
- Licensable Hot Plug Support
- Rebuild initiated when needed
- Rebuild will skip zones that have not been accessed by the host
- Rebuild progress will be saved in the RIS
- Online spare
- Multiple array per drive
Utilities Supported by the B110i:
- Array Configuration Utility (ACU)
- ACU Command Line Interface (CLI)
- Option ROM Configuration for Arrays (ORCA)
- SmartStart and Easy Set-up CD
Differences between the SATA Smart Array Controller and other Smart Array Controllers:
- The B110i doesn't have its own processor- it feeds off of the server processor
- Monitor and Performance Tracking is not supported
- No LED Blink support
- No Controller Write Cache
- Drive LED illumination only on systems with backplane support for drive LEDs
Drive LED Behavior:
Activity/Online LED: Green
