Edit an OS Build Plan

If you edit the type or constraint of a pre-existing custom attribute in an OS Build Plan, the associated Deployment Plans are updated with the changes. If you add or delete a step, then the changes are propagated to the associated Deployment Plans.
NOTE:

Default OS Build Plans have default Plan Scripts and custom attributes associated with them.

Prerequisites

  • Privileges: Infrastructure administrator, Software administrator.

  • Ensure that the OS Build Plan you intend to edit is not used by a server profile. The server profile contains the Deployment Plan which contains the OS Build Plan.

Procedure
  1. Select OS Build Plans from the main menu.
  2. Select an OS Build Plan in the master pane.
  3. Select Edit from the Actions menu.
  4. Edit the name or description for the OS Build Plan.

    You cannot modify the type of an OS Build Plan in the Edit OS Build Plan dialog.

  5. Click Add Steps.

    The Add Steps dialog lists the available Plan Scripts along with the type.

  6. Select one or more Plan Scripts from the list.

    If the OS Build Plan is of type Deploy, you will be able to add general and deploy type scripts to the OS Build Plan.

    If the OS Build Plan is of type Capture, you will be able to add general and capture type scripts to the OS Build Plan.

  7. Drag and drop the Plan Scripts to reorder them or specify a number in the text boxes, preceding the Plan Scripts.

    As you add the Plan Scripts, the Custom Attributes section displays the custom attributes of the selected Plan Scripts. These custom attributes can be modified. Custom attributes are not available for capture and general type Plan Scripts.

  8. Click to open the Edit Custom Attribute dialog.
  9. Select the type of custom attribute.
    As you select the type of the custom attribute, the applicable input fields for the selected type appear.

    • String is the default custom attribute type and can be used to create user-defined custom attributes.

    • IPv4 Address is used to provide static IPv4 addresses only to the custom attribute. This type is intended for assigning IP addresses for any other type of server that the deployed server uses. For server owned IP addresses, use NIC type.

    • Option type provides a list of selectable values. Choosing at least one option is mandatory. For multiple options, select one of the options as default using the radio buttons.

    • Password type provides the option to create and confirm the default password. The password input fields are secure entries and are protected by credentials service. Hence, you cannot view the contents of the password fields in plain text.

    • Number type is used to provide a number value to the custom attribute.

    • Hostname type is used to provide a plain text name to the custom attribute.

    • FQDN type is used to provide a domain name to the custom attribute.

    • NIC type is of format <name>.<parameter>. A custom attribute is automatically recognized as NIC by the .<parameter> configuration parameter syntax. For more information, see Network Interface Controller (NIC) attributes.

  10. Click OK to return to the Edit OS Build Plan dialog.
  11. Click OK to save your updates to the OS Build Plan.
