Cloning using an MS SQL instance
- Click HPE Recovery Manager Central > Microsoft SQL.
- Click the Instances tab and then select the instance.
- From the Actions menu, click Clone/Restore or in the Copies panel, click Clone/Restore.

Select one of the following options and then click
Next:
- Virtual Clone from a new Snapshot — Creates a snapshot of the database in the current state. The Clone of the database is created from the newly created snapshot.
NOTE:
There is no corresponding HpRmCli command for creating Clone from a new Snapshot.
- Virtual Clone from an existing Copy — Clones the existing Snapshot or backup Copy and then creates a Copy of selected databases in the instance.
- Physical Clone — Data is restored to a new volume.
- Instant Clone (ERT) — A Clone is instantly created from the backup Copies.
- Virtual Clone from a new Snapshot — Creates a snapshot of the database in the current state. The Clone of the database is created from the newly created snapshot.
- Perform the corresponding steps based on your selection in the Clone/Restore screen.

For
Virtual Clone from a new Snapshot:
- If you do not want to mount the clone, clear the
Mount option.
The default Clone Level setting mounts the volume clone.
- Click
Select Servers, select a server, and then click
Add.
You can use the Remove Selection option to exclude the selected servers.
- Click
Select Databases, select databases, and then click
Add.
You can use the Remove Selection option to exclude the selected databases.
- Specify the following details in the Snapshot section:
- Name
Specify a name for the snapshot.
- Auto Delete After
(Optional) Expiration time for the Copy. A Copy expires after the expiration time. The minimum time must be one hour. The maximum time can be 43,800 hours or 1,825 days.
- Prevent Deletion Until
(Optional) Retention time for the Copy. You cannot delete a Copy until the retention time expires. The minimum time must be one hour.
- Specify a
Mount Point for mounting the volume clone.
The default mountpoint is
C:\RMCSnapClones
. For cluster configuration, specify a cluster-dependent disk.
- If you do not want to mount the clone, clear the
Mount option.

For
Virtual Clone from an existing Copy:
- Pick a date (color coded) from the calendar that contains the copies summary for a selected month.
- Select a copy from the list of available copies for the selected date in the Copies for Clone and then click Next. You can use the First, Previous, Next, and Last buttons to navigate among pages that contain the Copies for Clone list.
- Click
Select Servers, select a server, and then click
Add.
You can use the Remove Selection option to exclude the selected servers.
- Click
Select Databases, select databases, and then click
Add.
You can use the Remove Selection option to exclude the selected databases.
- Specify a
Mount Point for mounting the volume clone.
The default mountpoint is
C:\RMCSnapClones
. For cluster configuration, specify a cluster-dependent disk. - Click Clone.

(Supported only for Express Protect or Catalyst Copy) For
Physical Clone:
- Pick a date (color coded) from the calendar that contains the copies summary for a selected month.
- Select a copy from the list of available copies for the selected date in the Copies for Clone section and then click Next. You can use the First, Previous, Next, and Last buttons to navigate among pages that contain the Copies for Clone list.
- Select a storage system.
- Click
Select Data Volumes, select volumes, and then click
Add.
You can use the Remove Selection option to exclude the selected volumes.
- Click
Clone.
NOTE:
The number of volumes selected for the creation of physical clone depends on the number of volumes in the recovery set and also the size of the volumes must be greater or equal to the recovery set volume sizes.

Instant Clone (ERT):
- Pick a date (color coded) from the calendar that contains the copies summary for a selected month.
- Select a copy from the list of available copies for the selected date in the Copies for Clone section and then click Next. You can use the First, Previous, Next, and Last buttons to navigate among pages that contain the Copies for Clone list.
- Click Clone.
