Deduplication on a volume
This feature of Windows Server 2016 provides space saving optimization functionality that HPE StoreEasy makes simple to set up and operate. Microsoft does an excellent job of explaining this feature in detail (see, Microsoft's Understanding Data Deduplication).
From the HPE StoreEasy perspective, you can choose to enable deduplication by selecting the preferred deduplication mode for a volume. Once enabled, Data Deduplication runs in the background to identify repeated patterns across files on the volume.
This pattern identification occurs using a post-processing model, meaning that the data scan occurs using stored data and not data that is in active use. Deduplication then provides optimized access to the information in its new state. All of this activity occurs in the background with no impact to the user or the users access to data.
