Performing the hardware preparation

Based on the hardware component, apply the Boot, BIOS, RAID, and NIC settings for Undercloud Host, VIM controllers, storage, and the compute nodes:
Setting HPE ProLiant DL servers HPE Edgeline EL servers
RAID Yes NA
BIOS Yes Yes
NIC Yes Yes
SNMP Yes Yes (applicable only for EL8000)
NOTE:

For HPE Synergy computes, the BIOS, RAID, and NIC settings are applied using the HPE OneView server profiles.

The Boot, BIOS, RAID, and NIC settings will be applied based on the hardware profile attached to each server. The hardware profile is a JSON file containing the Boot, BIOS, RAID, and NIC settings of the different types of nodes.

By default, NPS provides the hardware profile for servers used for control plane, storage plane, and compute plane. See Default hardware profiles.

NPS also provides the flexibility of using a custom hardware profile to set the customized values for Boot, BIOS, RAID, and NIC configuration for servers, apart from the default values provided in the bundled hardware profiles. A custom hardware profile is a JSON file which has a format of key/value pair for any settings for Boot, BIOS, RAID, and NIC.

To create a hardware profile with customized values and attach to the server, see Creating a custom hardware profile.

NOTE:
For any hardware preparation action, the following operations will be performed:
  • The label_password is the password for the Administrator. If this password is provided for the server in the input.json file, it will create the iLO user if the user account does not exist in the iLO. If the iLO user exists, it updates the password (provided in the input JSON) and privilege for the corresponding user.

  • If hostname is provided for server in the input.json file, set the iLO hostname, if the existing hostname of iLO does not match with the hostname provided in the input JSON.

Prerequisites
  • Ensure to enable iLO DHCP service if you have opted for the DHCP IP addresses during creation of input JSON.

  • Ensure that all the physical drives including flash drive are cleaned up.

  • Ensure that ODIM RA is deployed successfully.
