Requirements for teaming

  • Teaming operation requires the High Availability “Add Controller” license (HPE VAN SDN Ctrl HA E-LTU). For licensing information, see License Registration and Activation.

  • Each controller needs to be able to communicate with all the other controllers on TCP ports 5700, 7001, and 8443.

  • A team must consist of 3 controllers.

  • A controller can only be part of one team.

  • All three controllers in a team must be running the same controller software version.

  • The administrator must create the team and the regions.

  • A team requires one IP address for each controller, plus one IP address assigned to the team as a whole. If the current team leader goes down, the failover process includes keeping the team IP address active on the new team leader.

  • After a team is created, the controllers will adopt the data of one of the members of the team. It is recommended that you avoid possible conflicts or data loss by configuring the team prior to allowing any switch to connect to a controller.

  • A region cannot be created until a team is formed and the team status is active.

  • A controller can be the configured master controller for one region only.

  • All controllers in a team must be active to configure a region, including the master controller and all slave controllers. If any controller in the team is in a suspended or unreachable state, then the region configuration operations are disallowed.

  • IPv6 addresses occurring in any region field are not supported and will cause the region to be ignored.

  • Only OpenFlow 1.3 network devices are supported when the controller is teamed.

  • OpenFlow 1.3 devices must be configured with the IPs of all three controllers in the team.
