Upgrade Requirement:
Recommended - HPE recommends users update to this version at their earliest convenience.

Decreases the number of command timeouts caused by error recovery by improving drive background data checking algorithms, particularly in high usage environments.

Prerequisites:

CAUTION: Updating the firmware of disk drives in a virtual disk risks the loss of data and causes the drives to be temporarily inaccessible.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that no other user is performing administrative functions on the P2000/MSA2000 storage system

NOTE: Disk drive upgrades on the HP P2000/MSA2000 is an offline process. All host and array I/O must be stopped prior to the upgrade. For more information, see the HP 2000 Family Modular Storage Array reference guide.

IMPORTANT: Please refer to the release notes for special considerations regarding the pre-install conditions for flashing hard drives in P2000/MSA2000 configurations.

Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is not required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.

Installation:

  1. Place the downloaded firmware package in a temporary directory.

  2. Open a Linux command console.

  3. From the directory containing the downloaded file, enable execute access to this module by entering chmod +x CPxxxxxx.scexe, where CPxxxxxx.scexe represents the downloaded file.

  4. Execute the Smart Component by entering a command similar to the following: ./CPxxxxxx.scexe --target <ip_address> --user <username> --passwd <password>

  5. Follow onscreen instructions.

NOTE:
  • Use the -e or -f option when flashing a device, even if it is up to date.

  • Use the -g option when downgrading.

  • For details on supported command options, see the online help by executing the command ./CPxxxxxx.scexe or ./CPxxxxxx.scexe -h.

  • If the user name or password contains an exclamation mark (!), enclose the string in single quotes or enter a backslash (\) before the exclamation point. For example, ’!manage’ or \!manage

Version:HPDG (24 Oct 2013)
Fixes

Upgrade Requirement:
Critical - HP requires users update to this version immediately.

Problems Fixed:

This firmware corrects a possible condition in which stale data might be written to the disk.  This results in unexpected data being returned in subsequent requests.  This data issue has been duplicated in laboratory firmware stress tests.

Version:HPDC (29 Nov 2011)
Fixes

Upgrade Requirement:
Recommended - HPE recommends users update to this version at their earliest convenience.

This firmware prevents the following:

  • Possible HDD hang when the drive is used in a dual domain or dual path fail-over environment and communication to one path is suddenly lost
  • Over-writing data written via the fail over port when data is written via a port performing interface recovery (discovery)
  • A situation where the drive reports self test in progress erroneously after self test was interrupted by a power cycle or hot plug
