Reboot may be required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.

Installation:

Installation instructions

There are two methods for using the Service Pack for ProLiant to update your ProLiant servers:

-    Online mode - Runs on a Windows or Linux hosted operating system
-    Offline mode - Server is booted to the ISO

  • Automatic mode - Firmware components will be updated without interaction

  • Interactive mode - Follow the onscreen steps to update firmware components

To initiate deployment in Interactive mode:

Run the launch_hpsum.bat (Windows) or launch_hpsum.sh (Linux) script, which is found in the root of the ISO.

Automatic mode will by default run firmware update without any user interaction after sitting 30 seconds at the menu screen when an SPP ISO image is used to boot the server.

Booting the SPP from iLO virtual media is only supported in Automatic Firmware Update mode. Users attempting this in any other mode may experience hangs from connection timeouts, difficulties updating iLO firmware, and mouse syncing issues.

End User License Agreements (EULA) are available in the EULA folder for viewing.

Note: After installing Microsoft Windows operating system Service Pack or other operating system updates, HPE recommends reinstalling the software from the SPP.

Important:

Customer Advisory: Use of SPPs v2017.07.1 or later with HPE OneView requires an update to a version of OneView released in July 2017 or later (3.10, 3.00.08, 2.00.09 or later).  Read this Customer Advisory for more details.  Before installing this SPP on Synergy, please review the information at www.hpe.com/downloads/synergy.

In order to reduce the frequency at which servers need to be updated, HPE has changed the packaging and delivery of the SPP. There are now two types of SPPs:

  • A single “Production SPP” that contains the firmware and drivers for the all of the production server generations, and
  • Multiple server generation-specific “Post-Production SPPs” that contain the firmware and drivers for a specific post-production server generation (e.g. Gen8 only Post-Production SPP that contains the firmware and drivers for all of Gen8 server models).

The 2017.07.1 SPP is a production SPP and contains components for the Gen9 and Gen10 server platforms.  Components for the G7 and Gen8 server platforms will be available in the Post-Production SPPs. For additional information, please refer to Reducing Server Updates.  When available, Post-Production SPPs can be downloaded from www.hpe.com/servers/SPP/download.

Notes:

For a specific list of firmware and software smart components included with this ISO, please see the Service Pack for ProLiant Release Notes or Service Pack for ProLiant Contents Report.

For firmware and driver support for specific hardware, go to the following URL: http://www.hpe.com/support.

The USB Key Utility can be used to copy your Service Pack for ProLiant ISO onto your portable USB key storage device. Please note that the utility is now 64-bit only.  If the 32-bit application is needed, please use version 1.8.0.0.  Earlier versions of the USB Key Utility will not work on an ISO image greater than 4GB.

Supported Devices and Features:

For supported hardware, see the Service Pack for ProLiant Server Support Guide.
