Beginning with software release 11.2, Fibre Channel (LightPulse) adapters and Converged Network adapters (OneConnect) have independent software kits.

It is highly recommended that you review the Broadcom Software Kit Migration User Guide for more detailed information regarding this change. 

To obtain the guide:

This document provides special instructions and considerations for using the driver kits for FC and CNA adapters.

Special cases include those in which pre-11.2 (original) drivers and applications are replaced by the new 11.2 drivers and applications, and cases in which inbox drivers are replaced by the new 11.2 out-of-box (OOB) drivers.

IF the server contains only CNA adapters and lpfc driver is already been installed, post the new driver update, please remove the lpfc driver using the following command:

 #esxcli software vib remove lpfc

Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.


Installation:

 To use Smart Update Manager from the Service Pack for ProLiant:

Remote Online, if the component is supported by SUM but is not yet part of an SPP:

  • Download the appropriate Service Pack for ProLiant
  • Add the component to the Service Pack for ProLiant
  • Mount the Service Pack for ProLiant on a remote server running Windows or Linux that has a network connection to the ESXi host to be updated
  • Run Smart Update Manager via launch_sum.bat for Windows or launch_sum.sh for Linux
  • Add the ESXi host to be updated as a remote target/node
  • Enter the IP or DNS address of the ESXi host to be updated
  • Enter the ESXi host credentials (root or administrator username and password)
  • For Smart Update Manager 6.0 and newer, select both the Additional Package with the added component and the Service Pack for ProLiant Baseline on the node Inventory page.
  • Follow Smart Update Manager Steps and complete the firmware update.
  • Refer to the Service Pack for ProLiant Documentation for detailed instructions at: www.hpe.com/servers/spp/download

To update the driver using VMware tools:

  • Unzip this HPE component to extract the driver offline bundle
  • Use VMware Vsphere Update Manager(VUM) or esxcli commands to install the offline bundle.
  • Refer to VMware documentation for information on Vsphere Update Manager(VUM) and the esxcli commands
