This Linux Smart Component contains a firmware update for the hard drive models DG0146FAMWL, EG0146FAWHU (each of 146GB 10K SAS 6G) and DG0300FAMWN, EG0300FAWHV (each of 300GB 10K SAS 6G) in HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA and MSA2000 G2 configurations.

Prerequisites:

CAUTION: Updating the firmware of disk drives in a virtual disk risks the loss of data and causes the drives to be temporarily inaccessible.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that no other user is performing administrative functions on the P2000/MSA2000 storage system

Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is not required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.


Installation:

  1. Place the downloaded firmware package in a temporary directory.

  2. Open a Linux command console.

  3. From the directory containing the downloaded file, enable execute access to this module by entering chmod +x CPxxxxxx.scexe, where CPxxxxxx.scexe represents the downloaded file.

  4. Execute the Smart Component by entering a command similar to the following: ./CPxxxxxx.scexe --target <ip_address> --user <username> --passwd <password>

  5. Follow onscreen instructions.

NOTE:
  • Use the -e or -f option when flashing a device, even if it is up to date.

  • Use the -g option when downgrading.

  • For details on supported command options, see the online help by executing the command ./CPxxxxxx.scexe or ./CPxxxxxx.scexe -h.

Failure Considerations:

  1. Single ported drive will not be flashed if the owner controller of that drive is not accessible through network.
  2. Drives will not be flashed if the drive is in a virtual disk which is being initialized, expanded, reconstructed, verified, or scrubbed.
  3. Flash operation on any pending disks will be aborted if the currently flashed drive is in LEFTOVR state or the virtual disk containing this disk is found to be in offline or critical state. If this does occur, the vdisk can be restored to online status by changing the drive status from leftover to available and then adding the drive to the vdisk as a spare. If a global spare drive was available, it will have been used to restore the vdisk to online status.

Supported Devices and Features:
Firmware on the listed drives can be updated when attached to any P2000 G3 or MSA2000 G2 array controller enclosure.

  • HP ProLiant servers would power down due a hard drive over-temp condition that was falsely reported.

  • This firmware corrects unsolicited drive resets that will cause the drive to abort any queued commands resulting in slower performance due to the host having to resubmit commands dropped and RESET events to be logged in the hardware error logs.
  • In a fail over environment, this firmware corrects a possible drive hang if the connection on the active ports is lost.

Description

This Linux Smart Component contains a firmware update for the hard drive models DG0146FAMWL, EG0146FAWHU (each of 146GB 10K SAS 6G) and DG0300FAMWN, EG0300FAWHV (each of 300GB 10K SAS 6G) in HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA and MSA2000 G2 configurations.
