This Windows Smart Component contains a firmware update for the SFF hard drive models DG0146BARTP (146GB 10K SAS 3G) and DG0300BARTQ (300GB 10K SAS 3G) in HP P2000 G3 and MSA2000 G2 Storage Arrays.

Upgrade Requirement:
Recommended - HPE recommends users update to this version at their earliest convenience.

Upgrade to HDD firmware HPD1(A) is not necessary if HDDs are currently running HPD1 firmware.
Only the Smart Component package digital certificate has been updated for version HPD1(A)

Following enhancement added in HPD1 :

  • This firmware improves the hard drive servo control which reduces the number of positioning errors.

Prerequisites:

CAUTION: Updating the firmware of disk drives in a virtual disk risks the loss of data and causes the drives to be temporarily inaccessible.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that no other user is performing administrative functions on the HP P2000 G3 and MSA2000 G2 Storage Arrays.

NOTE: Disk drive upgrades on the HP P2000 G3 and MSA2000 G2 is an offline process. All host and array I/O must be stopped prior to the upgrade. For more information, see the HP Modular Storage Array 2000 Family reference guide. All firmware flash progress messages are logged to %systemdrive%\CPQSYSTEM\Log\MSA2000_IP.log and flashing summary is logged to %systemdrive%\CPQSYSTEM\Log\cpqsetup.log.

IMPORTANT: Please refer to the release notes for special considerations regarding the pre-install conditions for flashing hard drives in HP P2000 G3 and MSA2000 G2 Storage Arrays.

Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is not required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.

Installation:

The Smart Component package is a self-extracting executable. You can execute this module from the Windows graphical user interface (GUI) or the command line console (CLI).

GUI option

  1. Place the downloaded firmware package in a temporary directory.

  2. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the directory containing the download.

  3. Double click the executable file.

  4. Follow onscreen instructions.

CLI option

Execute the Smart Component by entering the following command: CPxxxxxxx.exe /target <ip_address> /user <username> /passwd <password> /s

where:

  • ip_address is the management IP address of the array controller

  • username is the username account with management rights

  • password is the password for username

Instead of command line parameters you can use the following DOS environment variables:

  • oa_address: set this variable for the IP address of array controller

  • oa_username : set this variable for the username of array controller

  • oa_password : set this variable for the password of that username

IMPORTANT: Please refer to the release notes for special considerations regarding the pre-install conditions for flashing hard drives in HP P2000 G3 and MSA2000 G2 Storage Arrays.

Notes:
Failure Considerations:

  1. Single ported drive will not be flashed if the owner controller of that drive is not accessible through network.
  2. Drives will not be flashed if the drive is in a virtual disk which is being initialized, expanded, reconstructed, verified, or scrubbed.
  3. Flash operation on any pending disks will be aborted if the currently flashed drive is in LEFTOVR state or the virtual disk containing this disk is found to be in offline or critical state. If this does occur, the vdisk can be restored to online status by changing the drive status from leftover to available and then adding the drive to the vdisk as a spare. If a global spare drive was available, it will have been used to restore the vdisk to online status.

Supported Devices and Features:
Firmware on the listed drives can be updated when attached to any of the following Storage Systems:

  • Modular Smart Array 2324sa
  • Modular Smart Array 2324fc
