This bundle contains a package with the Foundation Software ISO images for RHEL, SLES and Oracle Linux, as well as a supplemental update file, to be installed on the HPE Integrity MC990 X Server.

Prerequisites:

Please note the following pre-requisites prior to installing the Foundation Software:

  • A supported version of the operating system is installed.

  • You have access to the System Foundation Software ISO image and update file.

  • You have access to the operating system repositories. These may be online repositories provided by the operating system vendors or local repositories managed by the site.

  • You have root access to the system.

Note: The installation instructions assume that you have a copy of the System Foundation Software ISO image and that systems are configured so that package dependencies can be resolved by installing additional packages from the operating systems.


To ensure the integrity of your download, HPE recommends verifying your results with the following MD5 Checksum values:

Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.


Installation:

Please review all instructions and the "Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support Tool License Terms" or your Hewlett Packard Enterprise support terms and conditions for precautions, scope of license, restrictions, and limitation of liability and warranties, before installing this package. It is important that you read and understand these instructions completely before you begin. This can determine your success in completing the firmware update.

NOTE: For more details on how to install the image from a CD or DVD, or for installing using YaST, refer to the “HPE Integrity MC990 X Server Software Installation and Configuration Guide” at http://www.hpe.com/support/hpesc.

A. Prepration
In order to install the Foundation Software Version 2.14,
1. Download the SFS-2.14-ISO-2016-May-19.tgz image file and the 2016-Jun-6-SW-MD5SUMS file
      Note: You can verify the download by using the following md5sum command:
                          $md5sum --check 2016-Jun-6-SW-MD5SUMS
                 It should return:    SFS-2.14-ISO-2016-May-19.tgz: OK

2. Extract the ISO files using the command: tar –xzvf SFS-2.14-ISO-2016-May-19.tgz

3. Write the ISO file system-foundation-software-2.14-cd1-media-<OS>-x86_64.iso to a CD or a DVD, where <OS> is your operating system: rhel6, rhel7, sles11sp3, sles11sp4, sles12, sles12sp1.
       Note: For Oracle Linux 7, <OS> is rhel7.

Note: You may copy the image to a local network instead and use network tools to access the software. But the instructions below assume that you are using a CD or DVD.
Note: The update file contains a few RPMs that will be installed separately, after you finish installing the ISO image.

B. Installation
      I.  Installing System Foundation Software 2.14 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 or 12

1) Ensure access to operating system repositories.
If you have registered your system with SUSE, the relevant SLES product repositories and a matching update repository should have been automatically configured when registration was complete.  To ensure that these product repositories are configured and enabled, review the output of the following command:

      # zypper lr

For more information on adding and managing software repositories, refer to the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Deployment Guide.

2) Add System Foundation Software as a new software repository.
The following example shows how to configure the System Foundation Software 2.14 for SLES12 product ISO as a new software repository:
         Note: system-foundation-software-2.14-cd1-media-sles12-x86_64.iso was renamed to
                    sfs-2.14-sles12.iso in the example below for cleaner formatting.

  # zypper ar -c -t yast2 "iso:/?iso=/var/sfs-2.14-sles12.iso" "SFS-2.14"
      Adding repository 'SFS-2.14' ......................................[done]
      Repository 'SFS-2.14' successfully added
      Enabled: Yes
      Autorefresh: No
      GPG check: Yes
      URI: iso:///?iso=/var/sfs-2.14-sles12.iso

3) Refresh the software repository metadata.
The following command will refresh the repository metadata so that software management tools such as zypper know about available software repositories. This command also provides users with a chance to import the GPG digital key that is used to sign the System Foundation Software:

  # zypper refresh

4) Install the System Foundation Software pattern.
The following command will install the packages listed in the "System Foundation Software" pattern:
     # zypper install -t pattern System-Foundation-Software

Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

5) Reboot the system to complete the installation and boot with optimized kernel command line parameters.

     II.  Installating System Foundation Software 2.14 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 or 7

1) Ensure access to operating system repositories.
If you have registered your system with Red Hat and attached all applicable subscriptions, your system should be correctly configured and able to satisfy any package dependencies during the installation of the System Foundation Software product.  To ensure that these product repositories are configured and enabled, review the output of the following command:

      # yum repolist

For more information on registering the system, managing subscriptions and software repositories, refer to the System Administrator's Guide.

2) Add System Foundation Software as a new software repository.
The following example shows how to configure the System Foundation Software 2.14 for RHEL7 product ISO as a new software repository:
    Note: system-foundation-software-2.14-cd1-media-rhel7-x86_64.iso was renamed to
               sfs-2.14-rhel7.iso in the example below for cleaner text formatting.

      # mkdir /var/sfs-2.14
      # mount /var/sfs-2.14-rhel7.iso /var/sfs-2.14
      # /var/sfs-2.14/create-yum-config-file

The create-yum-config command creates a temporary yum repository config file based on System Foundation Software ISO image loop mounted at /var/sfs-2.14.

3) Install the System Foundation Software pattern.
The following command will install the packages listed in the "System Foundation Software" group:
    # yum -c /tmp/yum-sgi.conf groupinstall "System Foundation Software"

Follow any on-screen instructions.

When installing the System Foundation Software for the first time, yum will provide users with a chance to import the GPG digital key that is used to sign the System Foundation Software:

      III.  Installing System Foundation Software 2.14 on Oracle Linux 7

The instructions for installation of System Foundation Software on a system running Oracle Linux 7 are almost identical to those in section II. above (for RHEL 6 or 7). Please ensure that the packages in the Oracle Linux release is available via yum by registering your system with the Unbreakable Linux Network.
For more information on registering the system and managing subscriptions, refer to the Oracle Linux Administrator's Solutions Guide.
If the system will be running with the Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK), please also install the optional hwperf kernel module package built for use with the UEK as follows:
        # yum install kmod-hwperf-uek
        # yum update kernel-uek

After installing all packages, reboot the system to complete the installation and boot with optimized kernel command line parameters.

C. Verification:
To verify that Foundation Software version 2.14 is installed, run the command "zypper se foundation". It should return:
