This component provides updated iLO firmware that can be installed directly on supported Linux Operating Systems. This component can also be used to obtain the firmware image for updating via iLO user interface, utilities, or through the scripting interface. Additionally, this component can be used with the HP Smart Update Manager.

iLO 3 v1.88 includes the following enhancements:
- Added support for AES-CTR ciphers and HMAC-SHA2-256 to the SSH server.
- Disabled the CBC ciphers in the SSH server when iLO 3 is in FIPS mode or when the Enforce AES/3DES Encryption option is enabled.
- Certificate Signing Requests now use the SHA256 algorithm for the signature.
- The Java IRC now includes two alternatives: A Java Web Start console and a Java applet-based console. The Java Web Start option works in newer browsers that do not allow the applet version to run. On systems with OpenJDK, you must use the Java applet-based console with a browser (such as Firefox) that supports a Java plug-in.
 

Prerequisites:

Customers running a version of iLO 3 previous to v1.20 must upgrade v1.20 before upgrading to this version. iLO 3 v1.20 may be obtained from the following locations:

Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is optional after installation. Updates will be effective after reboot. Hardware stability will be maintained without reboot.


Installation:

Update via Online Linux Environment:
To update firmware from the Linux operating system on target server:

  1. Download the SCEXE file to the target server. 
  2. Run: sh CP019815.scexe

Update via iLO GUI, Utilities, or Scripting Interface:
To obtain firmware image for updating via iLO user interface, utilities, or scripting interface:

  1. Download the SCEXE file to a client running a Linux operating system. 
  2. Run: sh CP019815.scexe  --unpack=directory. 
    This command will unpack the iLO3 bin into a user specified "directory".  If the directory does not exist, the unpacker will attempt to create it.

Update via HP Support Pack for ProLiant:
To use HP Smart Update Manager (HP SUM) from the HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP):

Offline:

  1. Place the HP Service Pack for ProLiant on a USB key using the HP USB Key Creator Utility.
  2. Place the desired firmware to be updated in the directory, /SPP20xxxxx/hp/swpackages on the USB key.
  3. Boot from the newly created HP Service Pack for ProLiant USB key.
  4. Follow HP Smart Update Manager steps to complete firmware update.

NOTE: Use Offline mode to update systems running VMware ESXi 4.0 or ESXi 4.1.

Online:

  1. Login as root. (You must be root in order to apply the ROM update.)
  2. Place the desired firmware to be updated in the directory, /SPP20xxxxx/hp/swpackages.
  3. Locate Start.html which is found in the root of the ISO.
  4. Open the html file in a supported browser.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the firmware update.

FIXES: The following issues are resolved in this firmware version:
 - Addressed possible security vulnerabilities mentioned in the HP Software Security Response Team reports SSRT101790 and SSRT101886.
 - An iLO kernel crash after 40 or more days of uptime can lead to an operating system crash. When this occurs, the iLO Event Log records a “Power restored to iLO” event at the time of the OS crash.
 - DL385 G7 servers report false fan failures.
 - Disabled SSLv3 for webserver connections.
 - An intermittent virtual CD disconnection occurs during a system reboot.

Note: The iLO security policy has changed and SSLv3 is now disabled. You might need to enable TLS (Transport Layer Security) in your browser in order to access the iLO web interface.  TLS is the successor to SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).

- IPMI transactions to read the power consumption from Power Supplies P/N 499250-201 might report an incorrect value of zero watts.
- CPU overheating messages could be incorrectly detected and logged in the IML and causing iLO to initiate a server shutdown.
- A security vulnerability related to SSRT101326 has been addressed.  
- The following message appears when the Java IRC is started: This application will be blocked in a future Java security update because the JAR file manifest does not contain the Permissions attribute.  This message will continue to appear when you run Java 7 unless you install an SSL certificate that is signed by a trusted Certification Authority.

The following issues are resolved in this firmware version:

  • iLO 3 1.60 has been superseded by iLO 3 1.61 to address a critical issue that could occur when updating to iLO 3 1.60 on a blade server resulting in a power-on failure or an unexpected power shutdown.
  • The iLO 3 Evaluation license might expire prematurely.
  • A possible security vulnerability related to SSRT101250 existed.
  • The Integrated Remote Console (IRC) playback video could stop responding after recording.
  • The iLO firmware replaced the server Real Time Clock (RTC) time with the iLO Network Time Protocol (NTP) time on every server reboot. The RTC is now set with the NTP time only when the server is plugged in and returns from an unpowered state.
  • The JAVA Integrated Remote console (JIRC) could not launch with HP SIM Single Sign On (SSO).
  • When importing new HP SSO certificates, a “Certificate Could Not Be Stored” error might occur. (multi-user).
  • Mismatched Power Supply entries in the Integrated Management Log (IML) were not repaired after the correct power supply was installed.
  • The Remote Console Hotkey menu now includes the Print Scrn option. Red Hat Enterprise Linux interprets this as the SysRq key.
  • The System Information > Drive Information page might display incorrect hard drive information when a second backplane is installed.
Enhancements

  • Addressed an issue on the HP DL980 G7 server where the system incorrectly flagged a system overheat on boot.
  • Corrected an issue where iLO 3 was not reporting Uncorrectable Memory Errors to the IML in mirrored memory mode for the HP DL980 G7 server.
  • Corrected a Self-Signed certificate expiration date issue that occurred when iLO is set to the factory default settings after the year 2012. This may occur if iLO generates a new SSL self-signed certificate after January 18th, 2013.
  • Incorrect Drive status shown in the iLO 3 GUI when the HP Smart Array P410 controller is removed from the ProLiant c-Class Blade BL465c G7.
  • When iLO was configured to use a NTP server then the system RBSU date and time would be set to the iLO date and time on every reboot. Now system time will be set to NTP time only after AC power is restored to the system.
  • Addressed a possible security vulnerability in iLO 3 using Single-Sign-On. For more information see SSRT101180.

  •  Intermittent termination of a network connection might occur on some servers while connecting from CLI.
  •  iLO 3 might be unable to synchronize date and time with Onboard Administrator
  •  Integrated Remote Console might fail to open and display “HTTP error: The operation has timed out”.
  •  An Unhandled Exception Error might be displayed when toggling and applying FIPS Mode settings.
  •  Disabled HTTP TRACE method in iLO 3 webserver. Having it enabled caused few security scanners to report it as a vulnerability.
  •  Some security scanners could make iLO 3 webserver unresponsive and trigger a watchdog reset. The message "iLO 3 reset by watchdog" would be seen in the event log.
  •  After upgrading to firmware v1.50 on blades, iLO 3 date could be off by 70 years (1942 instead of 2012)
  •  iLO 3 Certificate Signing Request (CSR) countryName object is now PrintableString. The original countryName object was UTF8 which caused some Certificate Authorities to reject the iLO 3 CSR.
  •  The Pre-failure video playback might end without showing video.
  •  A user with insufficient privileges might be able to modify network settings through iLO Command Line Interface.
  •  Increased buffer size to allow the importing of a X.509 certificate file up to 3072 bytes long (Base64 encoded).
Enhancements

  • Added the ability to send the pre-failure video of a server to a remote webdav or IIS server through the CLI.

The following issues are resolved with iLO 3 firmware version 1.50:

  • SSH key import problem in which SSH key blobs include extra space after the user name.
  • Host Power Saver efficiency mode did not sync-up with the XML script.
  • Percent symbol was missing in the DesiredSpeed field for fan speed in the CLI.
  • iLO incorrectly displayed the DesiredSpeed for fan as 100 when one of the fans in a redundant configuration stopped working.
  • The Network Time Protocol (NTP) Timezone dropbox was active when the DHCP was enabled.
  • Error=400; Out of memory error in iLO' message displayed in the iLO GUI web interface while trying to add a new SSL certificate.
  • iLO power meter might not return to normal even after deactivating the e-brake.
  • DNS Domain name might accept some invalid characters in iLO CLI.
  • The IPMI Serial Over LAN (SOL) session might stop responding at iLO RBSU during a server reboot.
  • iLO did not decode special characters such as &, <, >, ', " in password through RIBCL.
  • iLO might stop responding occasionally when a Web Server setting was changed.
  • Adding/Removing SSH key for a user might generate an improper event log in iLO.
  • iLO might not display Asset Tag information through the IPMIUTIL FRU command on Windows Client.
  • Changing the boot order in the iLO web interface might not work properly with arrow keys in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0.
  • XML entries with unsupported characters for Computer Lock configuration were accepted in iLO web interface and converted as valid key entries.
  • DHCP supplied time zone was not applied to the time iLO obtained from an NTP server.
  • Intermittent Unknown status for System Health, Server Power and UID was displayed in the iLO web interface Overview page.
  • RIBCL failed with a login error when password contained a "%" character.
  • The numeric keypad did not work correctly in some situations.
  • Get_All_Languages.xml file did not work with CPQLOCFG.
  • iLO displayed an error message, "The Group SID is not valid", when SID was modified with a disabled directory.
  • HP ProLiant BL460c G7 with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, HP ProLiant Support Pack v8.60 and iLO 3 driver version 3.3.0.0 might randomly report hpilo3 driver errors in the system event log.
  • iLO 3 Gateway IP address could be displayed as 0.0.0.0 in RBSU.
  • iLO 3 could randomly fail to respond from the Channel Interface.
  • iLO 3 could discard an imported SSL certificate that contains the SerialNumber field in the Subject.
  • iLO 3 could attempt to shut down the server, if ambient temperature drops below zero Celsius.
  • iLO 3 is marked with critical error in HPSIM and SMH when iLO 3 NIC is disabled.
  • When trying to use IPMI tool via iLO 3 in Serial Over LAN (SOL) mode, the "Send break" command was not functional.

Implemented the following enhancements in iLO 3 firmware version 1.50:

• Invoking Virtual Serial Port (VSP) or Textcons might take up to two minutes to work if DNS servers in iLO  3 are improperly configured or DNS servers are unreachable.

This component provides updated iLO firmware that can be installed directly on supported Linux Operating Systems. Offline:

  1. Place the HP Service Pack for ProLiant on a USB key using the HP USB Key Creator Utility.

FIXES: The following issues are resolved in this firmware version:
 - Addressed possible security vulnerabilities mentioned in the HP Software Security Response Team reports SSRT101790 and SSRT101886.
 - An iLO kernel crash after 40 or more days of uptime can lead to an operating system crash. When this occurs, the iLO Event Log records a “Power restored to iLO” event at the time of the OS crash.
 - DL385 G7 servers report false fan failures.
 - Disabled SSLv3 for webserver connections.
 - An intermittent virtual CD disconnection occurs during a system reboot.

  • iLO 3 1.60 has been superseded by iLO 3 1.61 to address a critical issue that could occur when updating to iLO 3 1.60 on a blade server resulting in a power-on failure or an unexpected power shutdown.
  • The iLO 3 Evaluation license might expire prematurely.
  • A possible security vulnerability related to SSRT101250 existed.
  • The Integrated Remote Console (IRC) playback video could stop responding after recording.
  • The iLO firmware replaced the server Real Time Clock (RTC) time with the iLO Network Time Protocol (NTP) time on every server reboot. The RTC is now set with the NTP time only when the server is plugged in and returns from an unpowered state.
  • The JAVA Integrated Remote console (JIRC) could not launch with HP SIM Single Sign On (SSO).
  • When importing new HP SSO certificates, a “Certificate Could Not Be Stored” error might occur. (multi-user).
  • Mismatched Power Supply entries in the Integrated Management Log (IML) were not repaired after the correct power supply was installed.
  • The Remote Console Hotkey menu now includes the Print Scrn option. Red Hat Enterprise Linux interprets this as the SysRq key.

  •  The Pre-failure video playback might end without showing video.
  •  A user with insufficient privileges might be able to modify network settings through iLO Command Line Interface.
  •  Increased buffer size to allow the importing of a X.509 certificate file up to 3072 bytes long (Base64 encoded).

  • Changing the boot order in the iLO web interface might not work properly with arrow keys in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0.
  • XML entries with unsupported characters for Computer Lock configuration were accepted in iLO web interface and converted as valid key entries.
  • DHCP supplied time zone was not applied to the time iLO obtained from an NTP server.
  • Intermittent Unknown status for System Health, Server Power and UID was displayed in the iLO web interface Overview page.
  • RIBCL failed with a login error when password contained a "%" character.
  • The numeric keypad did not work correctly in some situations.
  • Get_All_Languages.xml file did not work with CPQLOCFG.
  • iLO displayed an error message, "The Group SID is not valid", when SID was modified with a disabled directory.
  • HP ProLiant BL460c G7 with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, HP ProLiant Support Pack v8.60 and iLO 3 driver version 3.3.0.0 might randomly report hpilo3 driver errors in the system event log.
  • iLO 3 Gateway IP address could be displayed as 0.0.0.0 in RBSU.
  • iLO 3 could randomly fail to respond from the Channel Interface.
  • iLO 3 could discard an imported SSL certificate that contains the SerialNumber field in the Subject.
  • iLO 3 could attempt to shut down the server, if ambient temperature drops below zero Celsius.
  • iLO 3 is marked with critical error in HPSIM and SMH when iLO 3 NIC is disabled.
  • When trying to use IPMI tool via iLO 3 in Serial Over LAN (SOL) mode, the "Send break" command was not functional.

  • iLO 3 web server might run out of SSL sessions. This situation might occur if client opens HTTPS connection to iLO 3 but never does the SSL handshake and keeps the TCP session open forever.

  • VSP session was restricted to a maximum of 100 characters when pasting text.  The limit is now increased to 250 characters.

• Invoking Virtual Serial Port (VSP) or Textcons might take up to two minutes to work if DNS servers in iLO  3 are improperly configured or DNS servers are unreachable.     
• After rebooting the server the following error message might display during POST: “Warning – iLO 3 not responding. System health monitoring disabled.”     
• Pasting text into a VSP session may not work properly if the server is in ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU) CLI mode.
• In a VMware ESXi 4.0 or 4.1 environment on the HP ProLiant DL360 G7, HP ProLiant DL380 G7, and the HP ProLiant DL580 G7 servers iLO 3 may report an erroneous 9006 condition.
• After performing a warm boot on the HP ProLiant BL460c G7, the blade might randomly fail to discover all the installed memory DIMMs.
