This Windows Smart Component contains a firmware update for SFF hard drive models EG0300FBVFL(300G 6G SAS 10K), EG0450FBVFM(450G 6G SAS 10K), EG0600FBVFP(600G 6G SAS 10K) and EG0900FBVFQ(900G 6G SAS 10K) in HP MSA 1040/2040 and P2000 G3 Storage Arrays.

Prerequisites:

WARNING! Do not cycle power or restart devices during a firmware update. If the update is interrupted or there is a power failure, the module could become inoperative. If this occurs, contact technical support. The module may need to be returned to the factory for reprogramming.

CAUTION: Updating the firmware of disk drives in a virtual disk risks the loss of data and causes the drives to be temporarily inaccessible.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that no other user is performing administrative functions on the HP MSA 1040/2040 and P2000 G3 Storage Arrays.

NOTE: Disk drive upgrades on the HP MSA 1040/2040 and P2000 G3 is an offline process. All host and array I/O must be stopped prior to the upgrade. For more information, see the HP Modular Storage Array Reference Guides. All firmware flash progress messages are logged to %systemdrive%\CPQSYSTEM\Log\MSA2000_IP.log and flash summary is logged to %systemdrive%\CPQSYSTEM\Log\cpqsetup.log.

IMPORTANT: Please refer to the best practices document for special considerations regarding the pre-install conditions for flashing hard drives in HP MSA 1040/2040 and P2000 G3 Storage Arrays.

Installation:

Installation instructions using Smart Component:

The Smart Component package is a self-extracting executable. You can execute this module from the Windows graphical user interface (GUI) or the command line console (CLI).

GUI option:

  1.     Place the downloaded firmware package in a temporary directory.
  2.     Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the directory containing the download.
  3.     Double click the executable file.
  4.     Follow onscreen instructions.

CLI option:

Execute the Smart Component by entering the following command: CPxxxxxxx.exe /target <ip_address> /user <username> /passwd <password> /s

where:

  •     ip_address is the management IP address of the array controller
  •     username is the username account with management rights
  •     password is the password for username

Instead of command line parameters you can use the following DOS environment variables:

  •     oa_address: set this variable for the IP address of array controller
  •     oa_username : set this variable for the username of array controller
  •     oa_password : set this variable for the password of that username

NOTE:

  • For details on supported command options, see the online help by executing the command CPxxxxxx.exe /h.

Supported Devices and Features:

Firmware on the listed drives can be updated when attached to any of the following Storage Systems:

  • HP MSA 2040 SAN SFF Storage
  • HP MSA 2040 SAS SFF Storage
  • HP MSA 1040 SAN SFF Storage
  • HP MSA 1040 SAS SFF Storage
  • HP P2000 G3 10GbE iSCSI MSA Dual Controller SFF Array System
  • HP P2000 G3 iSCSI MSA Dual Controller SFF Array System
  • HP P2000 G3 SAS MSA Dual Controller SFF Array System
  • HP P2000 G3 MSA FC Dual Controller SFF Modular Smart Array System
  • HP P2000 G3 MSA FC/iSCSI Dual Combo Controller SFF Array

Upgrade Requirement:
Recommended - HPE recommends users update to this version at their earliest convenience.

Following issues are fixed in this firmware:

  • Fixed background seek algorithm to allow self-test to run in the background.
  • Fixed problem with SMART temp warning on a full cache hit read workload.
  • Enabled just in time seek (JIT) in low queue depth mixed sequential and random read workloads. JIT is a power saving feature. Seek acceleration is reduced, so the head arrives just in time for the target block. Customer will see reduced power draw in this workload.
  • Fixed rare servo bug. Change servo processor to reset pending request for external memory accesses. Servo processor reset did not stop a pending external memory access request and could cause an error for an external memory access timeout. Use system-level reset of servo processor block that covers the external memory access timeout instead of internal servo processor soft reset.

WARNING! Do not cycle power or restart devices during a firmware update. If the update is interrupted or there is a power failure, the module could become inoperative. If this occurs, contact technical support. The module may need to be returned to the factory for reprogramming.
