Description

HPE announces the availability of an updated bundled firmware image for SAS disk drives supported within the HP P63x0 and P65x0 Enterprise Virtual Arrays. The bundled image contains firmware images for all currently supported SAS disk drives used in the P6000 product family.


NOTE: The P6000 requires SAS disks that are enabled for use on the EVA family as noted by ‘EVA’ on the disk model label. Non-EVA disks will not work in the P6000 and loading the updated firmware image will not change this restriction.

The following table lists the SAS disk drive models that have been added to or updated in the bundled firmware image. To maintain your storage system at the most current configuration, HPE recommends that you maintain all disk drives at the recommended firmware version. Complete the upgrade at your earliest convenience.

Enhancements

The following enhancement for SAS disk drive model EF0300FARMU, EF0450FARMV and EF0600FARNA are included in the HPD9 release:

  • This firmware contains a change which prevents an incorrect reassign status of a repaired sector from being logged.

The following enhancements for SAS disk drive models EH0146FCBVB and EH0300FCBVC are included in the HPD8 release:

  • Reliability enhancement for applications that write data to a narrow range of tracks.

  • New SMART trip when device senses an abnormal change in the motor electric current.

The following enhancements for SAS disk drive models EH0300JEDHC, EH0450JEDHD and EH0600JEDHE are included in the HPD4 release:

  • This firmware improve HDD reliability when HDDs are exposed to long periods of host inactivity that exceed 1 second. HDDs may become unresponsive when using HDD firmware prior to version HPD4.

  • This firmware also contains a change which prevents an incorrect reassign status of a repaired sector from being logged.

The following enhancements for SAS disk drive model MM1000JEFRB are included in the HPD6 release:

  • This firmware improves HDD reliability when HDDs are exposed to long periods of host inactivity that exceed 1 second. HDDs may become unresponsive when using HDD firmware prior to version HPD6.

  • This firmware also contains a change which prevents an incorrect reassign status of a repaired sector from being logged.

The following enhancement for SAS disk drive models MB2000FCZGH, MB3000FCZGK and MB4000FCZGL is included in the HPD7 release:

  • This firmware corrects an issue which could result in a failure of the drive to be discovered after power on.

The following enhancements for SAS disk drive models MB2000FCWDF, MB3000FCWDH and MB4000FCWDK are included in the HPDA release:

  • This firmware improves HDD reliability when HDDs are exposed to long periods of host inactivity that exceed 1 second. HDDs may become unresponsive when using HDD firmware prior to version HPD9.

  • This firmware also contains a change which prevents an incorrect reassign status of a repaired sector from being logged.

The following enhancement for SAS disk drive model MB3000FBNWV is included in the HPD9 release:

Prerequisites

  • XCS 11001100 or later on the P6300 and P6500 EVA.

  • 3 TB or larger drives require XCS 11001100 or later.

  • HP P6000 Command View 9.4 or later (check the HP P6000 Enterprise Virtual Array Compatibility Reference for the HP P6000 Command View versions supported with the controller software versions).

Installation instructions

HPE recommends that you use the bundled firmware image to upgrade all hard disk drives rather than manually upgrading the firmware on an individual disk drive. To complete the upgrade, see the installation instructions in the Updating Product Software Guide for the P6300/P6500 EVA.
