Switch and port LEDs on front of the switches

  • Front of Switch Status and Mode LED Behavior describes the switch chassis and Flex Portstatus LEDs and also the Switch Mode LEDs.

Switch LEDs
Function
State
Meaning
Internal Power Status ofthe switch.
On Green
The Switch has passed self-testand is powered up normally.
Slow Flash Green
The switch self-test andinitialization are in progress Statusafter the switch has been powercycled or reset. The switch isnot operational until thisThe switch self-test andinitialization are in progressSwitch/Port Fault Statusafter the switch has been powercycled or reset. The switch isnot operational until this LEDstops blinking green.

Self-Test Status Switch/Port Fault Status
Slow Flash Orange
The switch self-test andinitialization are in progressSwitch/Port Fault Statusafter the switch has been powercycled or reset. The switch isnot operational until this LEDstops blinking green.
On Orange
If this LED is on orange for aprolonged time, the switch hasOn Orangeencountered a fatal hardwarefailure, or has failed its self-test
Off
The unit is not receiving power.
UID (Unit Identification)
The Unit Identification LED is used to help you toUID (Unit Identification) The defaultis 30 minutes.a rack or collection ofproducts.
On or Slow Flash
The “chassislocate” commandallows you to blink or turn on the LED for a specified numberof minutes (1-1440). The defaultis 30 minutes.
Off
LED will turn off after thetimeout period has expired.
Back Module Status
Status of modularcomponents installed inthe back of the unit.
On Green
Normal operation: All modularcomponents installed in the back of the unit are functioningcorrectly.
Slow Flash Orange
One of the modules insertedfrom the back of the chassis of stacking module) has failed selftest or is experiencing a faultcondition. Flashessimultaneously with the GlobalStatus LED flashing orange.
Aux Port Activity
Indicates data transfer on Solid Greenthe Aux Port which is usedfor processing a downloading switch software code.
Solid Green
USB installed and successfullyinitialized, and mounted, but nodata transfer.
Green Flicker
Data transfer is in progress. Donot remove installed device untildata transfer is complete
Slow Flash Orange
The USB device that is installedis unsupported or faulted.
Off
No USB installed.
Flex Port Module Status
Status of Flex Portmodule.
On Green
Flex Port module operatingcorrectly.
Slow Flash Orange
Flex Port module hasexperienced a fault.The Global Status LED shouldbe flashing synchronously.
Off
No power.
No Present
No Module
Speed Mode Selected
Indicates when the Port LEDs are showing portspeed information.
On
Speed Mode is selected. PortLEDs indicate port speed.
Off
Speed mode not selected.
Power over Ethernet (PoE)Mode Selected
Indicates when the Port LEDs are showing PoEstatus information.
On Green
PoE Mode is selected. PortLEDs show PoE information.
On Orange
PoE Mode is selected and aport also has a PoE error. TheGlobal Status LED and the LEDcorresponding to the port withthe error will be flashing orange.The rest of the Port LEDs willdisplay normal PoE status.
Slow Flash Orange
PoE Mode has NOT beenselected and a port has a PoEerror. LED will be flashingorange simultaneously with theGlobal Status LED and the LEDcorresponding to the port with the error. The rest of the PortLEDs will display normal PoEstatus.
Save Power Mode Selected
This mode is indicated by ALL the switch indicator LEDsbeing off, except for the Global Status LED. This displaySave Power Mode Selectedoccurs only if the switch has been configured with thesavepower led command.

To display the information Activity/Linkfor the port as selected bythe LED Mode selectbutton.
Activity/Link
Shows port Activity and Linkstatus.
This is the DEFAULT. Thereis no dedicated mode LEDindicating this mode.
The Mode LED function the last press of the LEDMode button.
Speed
Shows port speedconfiguration.
PoE
Shows PoE information.
User
Shows User selectable Userbehavior.
Activity/Link Mode Selected
Port LEDs are displayingLink status and networkactivity informationsimultaneously.
Activity/Link Mode is the defaultmode and is in effect the unless another LED modehas been selected.
Half-Bright Green
The port is enabled andreceiving a Link indicationfrom the connected device.
Activity Flicker Green
The percentage of time thatthe LED is full-bright is roughly proportional to the percentage of full bandwidthutilization of the port.
Half-Bright Green port Linkindication remains on asActivity flickers fromhalf-bright to full-bright.
Slow Flash Orange
The corresponding port hasfailed its self-test. Flashessimultaneously with theGlobal Status LED flashingorange.
Off
The Port is disabled, notconnected, or not receivinglink.
Speed Mode Selected
Port LEDs are displaying the connection speed atwhich each port isoperating.
Fast Flash Green
The port is operating at 40Gbps.
On Green
The port is operating at 10Gbps.
Triple Blink Green
The port is operating at 5Gbps. (HPE SMART RATEports only)
Double Blink Green
The port is operating at 2.5Gbps. (HPE SMART RATEports only)
Slow Flash Green
The port is operating at 1Gbps.
PoE Mode Selected
Port LEDs are displaying PoE information.
On Green
The port is providing PoEpower.
On Orange
PoE is disabled on the port.
Fast Flash Orange
The port is denied power oris detecting an external PDfault.
Slow Flash Orange
The port has an internalhardware failure. Flashessimultaneously with theGlobal Status LED flashingorange.
Off
The port is not providingPoE power.
User Mode Selected
Mode currently active onlyin stacked configurations.
On Green
Stack Member exists in thestack and is operational.
Slow Flash Green
Indicates the Member # ofthe chassis.
Fast Flash Green
Indicates the Member # ofthe Commander of thestack.
On Orange
Stack Member is currentlybooting or has a fault that is preventing it fromcommunicating.
Slow Flash Orange
Stack Member is in a knownfault condition (i.e. Fan fault,PSU fault, etc.). The Global Status LED onall stack members will alsoSlow Flash Orange.
Off
Stack Member does notexist in the stackconfiguration.
