DESCRIPTION

If any HP Smart Array Gen9 controller is connected to an HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 2040 (MSA2040) shared storage box, and more than 64 LUNs are presented from the MSA2040, the Smart Array Gen9 controller will stop responding during Power-On Self-Test (POST) with a General Protection Exception, x64 Exception Type 0D error.

SCOPE

Any ProLiant Gen9 server configured with any of the following running Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 2.10 or 2.12:

  • HP Smart HBA H240
  • HP Smart HBA H240ar
  • HP Smart HBA H241
  • HP Smart HBA H244br
  • HP Smart Array P246br
  • HP Smart Array P244br Controller
  • HP Smart Array P440 Controller
  • HP Smart Array P440ar Controller
  • HP Smart Array P441 Controller
  • HP Smart Array P841 Controller
  • HP Smart Array P840 Controller
  • HP Smart Array P741m Controller

Note: Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 1.34 is not affected by this issue.

RESOLUTION

A future version of Smart Array controller firmware will correct this issue.

As a workaround until the firmware is available, configure and present less than 64 LUNs from the MSA2040.

This advisory will be updated when additional information becomes available.
