It is important to implement security best practices by keeping firmware current and to avoid exposing system level features, like HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO), on the public Internet.


Any HPE ProLiant server with Integrated Lights-Out (iLO).


The HPE Integrated Lights-Out Security Technology Brief provides information on security best practices, including the following:

  • Do NOT connect iLO devices directly to the Internet
    IMPORTANT: Change the iLO password immediately, if iLO has been directly connected to the Internet.
  • Utilize a dedicated management network that is isolated from the production network
  • Disable IPMI over LAN
  • Use strong passwords
  • Keep your firmware up-to-date
  • Disable unused ports
  • Utilize strong encryption ciphers
  • Configure Remote Console to automatically lock the server OS console

In addition, HPE strongly encourages customers to update iLO firmware to the latest version at no cost via HPE Support Center at .
