On HP ProLiant servers, when a SATA disk drive fails or fails to come into the READY status, the Smart Array controller may stop responding for a certain period of time and then may skip the rest of the attached SATA drives.

In a Redundant Array configuration where only one Hard Disk Drive (HDD)experiences this issue, all other drives on the same SATA bus could become inaccessible to the host and as a result, the array and its logical drives may be unavailable. If the array is on the boot volume of the server, the server may not be able to boot into the Operating System (OS).

Any HP ProLiant server configured with any of the HP Smart Array Controllers or HP Smart Host Bus Adapters listed under the Platforms Affected section below.

The firmware versions affected are as follows:

  • Px2x controllers: prior to version 7.02
  • Px3x controllers: prior to version 3.02
  • Px4x controllers: prior to version 3.56
