DESCRIPTION

On an HP ProLiant server configured with Qlogic NX2 adapters, if the "Network Partitioning" (NPAR) feature is enabled in a Virtual Connect (VC) environment, multiple issues may occur where in some cases the ports may not show up in the System Configuration menu or at the Operating System level, or in other cases the connectivity of the ports may fluctuate at the Operating System level, depending upon whether a cold boot or warm boot was done previously.

The following example shows the missing ports in the System Configuration menu: Less than four ports per adapter are displayed with a VC profile assigned and NPAR enabled:

The following example shows the missing ports in the System Configuration menu with a VC profile un-assigned and NPAR enabled:

The following example shows the missing ports in OS: VC profile is assigned and NPAR is enabled:

The following example shows the missing ports in OS: VC profile is un-assigned and NPAR is enabled:

The following example shows the ports with NPAR configured shown as disconnected in the Operating System (VC profile assigned): The issue occurs after a cold boot/power cycle. Note that the disconnected ports have a factory default MAC address instead of the VC assigned MAC address.

The following example shows the ports with NPAR configured shown as connected in the Operating System (VC profile assigned): This issue occurs after a warm boot. Note that all the ports now have the VC assigned MAC address.

SCOPE

Any HP ProLiant server configured with any of the following HP Network Adapters using Qlogic NX2 UEFI driver 7.13.16(or earlier):

  • HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 530FLR-SFP+ Adapter

  • HP FlexFabric 20Gb 2-port 630M Adapter
  • HP FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 536FLB Adapter

RESOLUTION

As a temporary workaround, do not use the NPAR feature in a VC environment.

NOTE: Qlogic is currently investigating additional solutions. This advisory will be updated when additional information becomes available.
