Original Document Release.

Google's security researchers have created an exploit which reportedly could potentially take control of a client or server by using the Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) bit-flip issue (also known as Rowhammer), which may result in bits in adjacent rows changing during periods of high access rates to a memory row.

DETAILS

HP has already taken the necessary steps to protect our customers and products from any potential security risk.

HP ProLiant servers have Error Correction Code (ECC) memory which corrects potential Rowhammer bit-flips and mitigates the possibility of Rowhammer data corruption, random crashes or denial of service attacks. In addition, HP ProLiant servers have had the mitigation in place in the System ROMs since late-2012, with the exception of the ProLiant DL360 G6, ProLiant DL380 G6, ProLiant BL460c G6 servers. These specific G6-series servers did not originally support DRAMs that were susceptible to the Rowhammer issue. However, these specific G6-series server System ROMs have been updated, as shown in the table below, to eliminate the Rowhammer issue, in the event susceptible DRAM modules have been installed in a G6-series server. In addition, please note the updated System ROMs for Moonshot Server Cartridges.

Ensure the following minimum System ROM versions are installed in G6-series servers and ProLiant Moonshot Server Cartridges:

2015.01.22
ProLiant DL380 G6 Server

IMPORTANT: HP Networking and Storage platforms are not affected by the Rowhammer issue.
