HPE Moonshot System - Configuring

Configuration overview

To configure Moonshot, complete the following steps:

  1. Connect to the chassis:

    1. Connect to the serial port on the Moonshot 1500 CM module.

    2. Connect to the serial console port on each uplink module.

  2. Configure the chassis:

    1. Set the chassis name.

    2. Set the time zone.

  3. Obtain the MAC addresses for each cartridge node.

  4. Configure chassis and switch module security settings:

    1. Change the passwords from the default to a user-defined value.

    2. Enable SSH for each switch.

      SSH is enabled for iLO CM firmware by default.

  5. Update the firmware for Moonshot components as needed, using MCP.

Connecting to the chassis

To begin configuring the chassis, connect to the Moonshot 1500 CM module and each switch locally.

Connecting to the serial port on the Moonshot 1500 CM module

To access the iLO CM firmware locally:

  1. Connect a PC or terminal to the serial port on the Moonshot 1500 CM module using a serial cable.

  2. Configure the terminal with the following settings:

    • 115200 baud rate

    • 8 data bits

    • No parity

    • 1 stop bit

    • No flow control

  3. Start the terminal.

  4. Log in as administrator. At the login prompt, enter:

    Administrator

    Enter the password:

    password

    To determine the IP address of the iLO CM firmware, or to set static IP addresses, log in to the iLO CMfirmware locally.

    If using DHCP services on the management network, find the IP addresses of the Moonshot 1500 CMmodule for remote management.

  5. Show the chassis IP addresses:

    show

    If user is not using DHCP services on the management network, configure static IP addresses beforemanaging the chassis remotely.

    To configure static IP addresses, log in to the iLO CM firmware and set network IP, subnet mask, anddefault gateway addresses for each zone.

Connecting to the serial console port on the uplink module

To access the switch CLI interface locally:

  1. Connect a PC or terminal to the serial console port on the uplink module using a console cable.

  2. Configure the terminal with the following settings:

    • 115200 baud rate

    • 8 data bits

    • No parity

    • 1 stop bit

    • No flow control

  3. Start the terminal.

    Remote management of the switch is controlled by the HP Moonshot 1500 Chassis Management module.Ensure the Moonshot 1500 CM module service port is connected to the management network.

    If using DHCP services on the management network, find the switch IP address for remote management:

    1. Access the switch CLI interface locally.

    2. Log in as admin. At the login prompt, enter:

      admin

      Enter the password. By default, no password is set for the admin account.

    3. Enter privileged exec mode. At the switch prompt, enter:

      enable

      Enter the password. By default, no password is set for privileged exec mode.

    4. Show the switch IP address. At the privileged exec prompt, enter:

      show serviceport

      If user is not using DHCP services, configure the switch IP address before managing the switchremotely.

Configuring the chassis

Use the following commands to begin configuring the chassis:

  • set chassis name <name>

  • set timezone <timezone>

Obtaining the MAC addresses for each cartridgenode

A MAC address is needed to deploy the operating system to a cartridge node.

To obtain the MAC addresses from each cartridge zone:

  1. Log in to the iLO CM firmware.

  2. Enter the preferred cartridge zone:

    zone {1|2|3}

  3. Obtain MAC addresses:

    show node macaddr all

Configure chassis and switch security settings

To configure chassis security settings, do the following:

  • Set the admin default password for the chassis.

  • Set the admin default password for each switch.

  • Enable remote management.

Set the admin default password for the chassis

To begin configuring chassis security settings, log in to the iLO CM firmware and set the administratoraccount password.

To set the administrator password, enter:

set user password <user name> [<new password>]

Set the admin default password for each switch

To begin configuring network security settings for the switches, log in to each switch module locally to set theadministrator account password.

  1. Connect to the switch module serial port on the Moonshot 1500 CM module.

  2. Log in as admin.

  3. Perform the following commands in sequence:

    1. enable

    2. config

    3. username admin password <password>

    4. exit

    5. write memory

    6. y

    7. exit

Enable remote management

To manage each switch remotely, SSH must be enabled.

To enable SSH on each switch:

  1. Connect to the serial console port on the uplink module.

  2. Log in as admin.

  3. Perform the following commands in sequence:

    1. enable

    2. ip ssh server enable

    3. configure

    4. aaa authentication enable hp none

    5. line ssh

    6. enable authentication hp

    7. exit

    8. exit

    9. write memory

    10. y

    11. exit

Update the firmware for Moonshot components

Enter the following command to flash the specified image file from the NAND or URL to the appropriatedevices.

update firmware {[[<filename> | <url>]]} [ <Cx> | [all]]

When flashing iLO firmware, this command flashes all four iLOs. The current iLO is flashed first to helpprevent an update failure, followed by the remaining three iLOs in parallel. When flashing cartridges, thecommand accepts multiple cartridges in the argument. To flash all cartridges in the current zone (whenconnected with serial) or all cartridges in the chassis (when connected with SSH over LAN), specify all inthe argument.

Always use the recommended firmware version for all Moonshot components. For more information onrecommended firmware versions, see the HP website.

Updating firmware

HP recommends updating the firmware in the following order:

  • iLO CM firmware

  • Cartridge firmware

  • Switch firmware

Chassis and cartridge firmware

Three zones are used to manage the cartridge nodes:

  • Zone 1: Cartridge nodes 1 to 18

  • Zone 2: Cartridge nodes 19 to 27

  • Zone 3: Cartridge nodes 28 to 45

Each zone is displayed from the SHOW CHASSIS INFO command.

To update the firmware:

  1. Change the zone of operation, if needed:

    ZONE {1|2|3}

  2. Verify the firmware version:

    SHOW FIRMWARE REVISIONS

    SHOW SWITCH INFO

  3. Download the correct firmware version from the HP Moonshot Component Pack download site.

  4. After downloading the firmware image, upload the image to the chassis manager repository:

    ADD FIRMWARE FILE <SOURCE URL>

  5. Verify the image was uploaded successfully:

    SHOW FIRMWARE FILES

  6. Update the chassis manager or system firmware:

    UPDATE FIRMWARE <FILENAME>

  7. Update the cartridge firmware. Select the appropriate zone, and then run the following command:

    UPDATE FIRMWARE <FILENAME> [C<CARTRIDGE NUMBER>]

Updating switch firmware

To transfer firmware updates to the switch, use TFTP, SFTP, or SCP. The example below uses TFTP.

  1. Verify the version of the current switch image:

    show bootvar

  2. Verify connectivity by pinging the file server:

    ping x.x.x.x

  3. Copy the firmware image from the TFTP server to the alternate firmware bank of the switch:

    copy tftp://x.x.x.x/<path_to_file> alternate

  4. Configure the switch to boot from the image:

    boot system alternate

  5. Update the boot loader on the switch:

    update bootcode

  6. Verify the switch boot image information:

    show bootvar

  7. Reset the switch to boot from the new image:

    reload

  8. After the switch has rebooted, verify that the firmware update was successful:

    show bootvar

    The switch boots the image from the alternate flash file system, but the image loads and runs in theprimary flash file system.

  9. Make a backup of the image:

    copy primary alternate

  10. (Optional) Update the CPLDs:

    update cpld

    The CPLD update automatically reloads the switch and completes when the switch returns to anoperational state. This process disrupts traffic on the associated switch. HP recommends performing thisstep.
