Release Date: 2012-08-28

Last Updated: 2012-09-07

DESCRIPTION

In some instances, a host may lose access to a LUN on an HP 2000 G2 Modular Smart Array (MSA) or an HP P2000 G3 MSA array. It has been seen that the LUN RESPONSE setting is not set correctly for operating systems that cannot handle contiguous LUNs.

The purpose of the LUN RESPONSE setting is to handle these situations by enabling the host drivers to continue probing the LUNs until they reach the LUN to which they have access to.

The option needs to be changed from NOT READY, which is the default option, to ILLEGAL REQUEST.

SCOPE

All HP MSA2000 G2 and P2000 G3 arrays are affected by this advisory. All protocols are affected.

Operating systems affected by this advisory include Linux, HP-UX, and VMware.

RESOLUTION

Change the LUN RESPONSE setting through the System Management Unit (SMU) or CLI using either controller A or B.

To change the LUN RESPONSE setting through the SMU:

  1. Shut down the host.

  2. Log into either the controller A or B SMU.

  3. In the View panel, right-click the system and select Configuration > Advanced Settings > Cache.

  4. Change the LUN response from NOT READY to ILLEGAL REQUEST.

  5. Click Apply.

  6. Restart the host.

To change the LUN RESPONSE setting through the CLI:

  1. Shut down the host.

  2. Log into either the controller A or B CLI.

  3. Once logged into the CLI, enter the following command:

    #set advanced-settings missing-lun-response illegal

  4. Restart the host.

For more information about changing the LUN RESPONSE setting, see the HP P2000 G3 MSA System SMU Reference Guide.
