Release Date: 2017-02-13

Last Updated: 2012-05-25

DESCRIPTION

After updating the firmware on a Smart Array P410, P410i, or P212 Zero Memory (ZM) Controller from version 3.66 (or prior) to versions 5.06 through 5.14, the server will stop responding during initialization of the Smart Array controller with a "1783 - Slot 0 Drive Array Controller Failure" message if a drive connected to the controller has been SMART tripped (Predictive Failure).

SCOPE

Any ProLiant server configured with a Smart Array P410, P 410i, or P212 Zero Memory (ZM) controller.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this issue, Upgrade the firmware to version 5.70 as follows:

Linux:

https://downloads.hpe.com/pub/softlib2/software1/sc-linux-fw-array/p1997486963/v76283/CP017183.scexe

Windows:

https://downloads.hpe.com/pub/softlib2/software1/sc-windows-fw-array/p1095672758/v76282/cp017182.exe

To correct this issue if it has already occurred, remove all the drives and then downgrade the Smart Array firmware back to version 3.66. The 1783 POST error (0x13 lockup) will be encountered during the firmware downgrade; however, the array can be successfully accessed. Then, replace the predictive failed drives and let the RAID rebuild complete if this is a fault tolerant RAID; otherwise, backup the replaced drive, reconfigure the array, and restore from the backup.

A future version of the Support Pack for ProLiant (SPP) will also contain Smart Array Firmware Version 5.70.
