HP Integrity rx6600 Server - Processors Show Dormant in System Management Homepage

ISSUE:

The System Management Homepage shows every other CPU as dormant, as shown in the following illustration.

SOLUTION:

On the HP Integrity rx6600 and HP Integrity rx3600 Servers, the dual-core Intel Itanium 2 processors support hyper-threading. Each core of the processor supports two threads. In the System Management Homepage, each of the threads is represented as a processor module.

If hyper-threading is turned on (default) it appears as dormant.

To turn hyper-threading off, reboot the server and go into the EFI shell. Use the cpuconfig command to turn the threads off.

Check the Hyper-Threading Status:

Shell> cpuconfig

CPU threads are turned on.

Disable the Hyper-Threading:

Shell> cpuconfig threads off

cpuconfig: Threads will be off after a reset

Shell> reset

After Resetting the System:

Shell> cpuconfig
