DESCRIPTION

HPE ProLiant, Apollo and Synergy Gen10 servers configured with Intel Xeon Scalable Performance Processors may experience a VMware Purple Screen of Death (PSOD)failure when Intel Trusted eXecution Technology (TXT) is enabled.

This issue is only seen when a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is configured in TPM 1.2 Mode. This issue does not exist in the default TPM 2.0 mode. Additionally, this issue will only be seen when memory is installed on the second memory controller of the processor. Systems that have more than a single DIMM module installed that follow the HPE Memory Installation Guidelines (where memory is balanced across both memory controllers of a processor) will not exhibit this issue. This issue was introduced with System ROM version 2.00 and does not exist in earlier versions of the System ROM.

SCOPE

Any HPE ProLiant, Apollo and Synergy Gen10 servers configured with Intel Xeon Scalable Performance Processors with Intel Trusted eXecution Technology (TXT) enabled with a TPM Operating in TPM 1.2 Mode with VMware and System ROM version 2.00.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this issue, perform one of the following workarounds:

Install an additional DIMM so that each socket has a balanced memory configuration with a DIMM on each Memory Controller.

OR

For systems configured with Intel Xeon SP 4100/5100/6100/8100 series processors (Skylake), revert to System ROM version 1.46 or earlier to avoid the issue.

OR

Configure the TPM for TPM 2.0 Mode

A future version of the System ROM may contain a resolution to this issue. This advisory will be updated when additional solutions become available.
