DESCRIPTION

On HPE Synergy platforms and HPE BladeSystem c7000 Enclosures managed by HPE OneView, a temporary loss of connectivity may occur on all Fibre Channel (FC) uplink ports that are configured for fixed interface speed of 16 Gb/s during upgrade of HPE Synergy Composer or the HPE OneView appliance to firmware version 4.10.01 or 4.10.03.

FC uplink ports configured to the default speed of "Auto" will not be affected, even though these connect at 16 Gb/s.

SCOPE

Any HPE Virtual Connect SE 16Gb Fibre Channel Module for Synergy or HPE Virtual Connect 16Gb 24-port Fibre Channel Module for c-Class BladeSystem managed by HPE OneView.

RESOLUTION

This issue will be resolved in a future release of HPE OneView.

To prevent a transient Fibre Channel outage during upgrade to HPE OneView 4.10.01 or 4.10.03 for the modules listed below, first verify the currently configured uplink port speed in the Logical Interconnect (LI):

  • HPE Virtual Connect SE 16Gb Fibre Channel Module for Synergy
  • HPE Virtual Connect 16Gb 24-port Fibre Channel Module for c-Class BladeSystem

If the ports are configured for Auto, 4Gb/s or 8Gb/s, the procedure outlined below does not apply and the upgrade to 4.10.01 or 4.10.03 can be performed without risk of transient Fibre Channel outage.

If the uplink ports are configured for 16Gb/s, use the following procedure prior to performing the upgrade:

  1. Edit the LI and set all side-A (odd numbered bays 1,3,5) 16Gb/s ports to 'Auto'.
  2. Save the change and allow the interconnect(s) to reach a 'Configured' state.
  3. Edit the LI and set all side-B (even numbered bays 2, 4, 6) 16Gb/s ports to 'Auto'.
  4. Save the change and allow the interconnect(s) to reach a 'Configured' state.
  5. Edit the Logical Interconnect Group (LIG) and set all 16Gb/s ports to 'Auto' and save the change.
  6. Return to the LI and perform an update from group.
  7. Allow the interconnect(s) to reach a 'Configured' state.

This procedure ensures that traffic will be maintained uninterrupted on the servers throughout the upgrade. The update from group ensures that all consistency alerts are cleared.

After all steps are finished, the upgrade to 4.10.01 or 4.10.03 can be performed. Once the upgrade is completed, the Fibre Channel uplink ports may be reconfigured for 16 Gb/s if desired.

Upgrades to future releases of HPE OneView will not require adjustment of the 16Gb/s uplink port speed prior to performing the upgrade.

This advisory will be updated when the permanent fix becomes available.
