HPE Helion OpenStack 8

Product Description

HPE Helion OpenStack is an enterprise-ready OpenStack distribution that accelerates deployment of highly available, mixed-hypervisor IaaS Clouds. Backed by HPE’s cloud Center of Expertise service delivery and support organization and the excellence of SUSE engineering, Helion OpenStack is a private cloud Infrastructure as a Service solution based on open source technology enabling speed and flexibility of IT delivery while maintaining control and security.

Helion OpenStack 8 uses Cloud Lifecycle Manager (formerly Helion Lifecycle Manager) to enable template-based cloud definition. With a built-in configuration checker, version control of cloud configurations using the industry standard git source code control system (SCCS), and flexibility to extensively modify cloud configurations without requiring a cloud redeployment, CLM allows enterprises to deploy a highly-available, mixed-hypervisor IaaS cloud onto existing data center infrastructure.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is the operating system foundation on which Helion OpenStack 8 operates and provides access to a wide variety of hardware and software. Helion OpenStack can also utilize Ceph as provided by the SUSE Enterprise Storage product. More information on these products are available on the SUSE website.

Product Overview

Helion OpenStack enables organizations to set-up and manage their own private clouds and comprises the following components:

  • Helion OpenStack Deployment Server: The Helion OpenStack Deployment Server sets up the cloud and configures and provisions the Helion OpenStack Control, Compute and Storage nodes. This server optionally integrates with HPE OneView for node enumeration and discovery.

  • Helion OpenStack Control Node: Helion OpenStack Control Nodes host the cloud’s self-service portal, image repository and other OpenStack services. They also automatically track resource state within the Helion OpenStack Compute and Storage nodes, evaluating available capacity and deploying workloads.

  • Helion OpenStack Compute Nodes: Helion OpenStack Compute Nodes are the physical servers managed by Helion OpenStack. Compute nodes run SUSE Linux Enterprise KVM to run virtual machine workloads, optionally integrate with VMware vCenter to host ESXi workloads, or host bare-metal workloads leveraging OpenStack Ironic. Helion also supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux KVM when purchased through HPE.

  • Helion OpenStack Swift Storage Nodes: Helion OpenStack Swift Storage Nodes are the physical servers managed by Helion OpenStack to host object storage using Swift.

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server: Helion OpenStack uses SUSE Linux Enterprise Server as the base operating system.

  • SUSE Enterprise Storage: Helion OpenStack can utilize the SUSE Enterprise Storage product for Ceph if desired.

Helion OpenStack is available for download for the x86_64 platform.

DVD1 contains the binary packages, DVD2 the source code, and DVD3 the debug packages.
