Original Document Release.

On HPE ProLiant servers with HPE Insight Management WBEM Providers installed and Hyper-V enabled, the root/interop namespace is overwritten by HP_Base.mof compilation. Consequently, the following MSVM classes are not instantiated, causing many VM commands (such as Get-VMFirmware, Set-VMFirmware) to fail:

  • Msvm_ElementConformsToProfile
  • Msvm_ReferencedProfile
  • Msvm_RegisteredProfile

In a similar way, on the HPE Integrity Superdome X platforms with Hyper-V enabled and where "HPE Mission Critical WBEM Providers" are installed, the above mentioned reason causes the same issue to the following MSVM classes, resulting in VM commands failure:

  • Msvm_ElementConformsToProfile
  • Msvm_ReferencedProfile
  • Msvm_RegisteredProfile

Note: Microsoft components and any other 3rd party tools that have made an entry in root\interop namespace will be impacted because the data entered will be lost.

SCOPE

Any HPE ProLiant server and HPE Integrity Superdome X platforms running Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 (all editions) or Microsoft Windows Server 2016 (all editions) and configured with HPE Insight Management WBEM Providers and HPE Mission Critical WBEM Providers(all versions) with Hyper-V enabled.

Software Affected: Windows Hyper-V Manager and Hyper-V PowerShell

RESOLUTION

Perform one of the following:

- Install the Hyper-V after Downgrade/Upgrade/refresh installation of the HPE WBEM Providers. This will not impact the Msvm_ classes under root\interop namespace.

OR

- If Hyper-V is installed before Downgrade/Upgrade/fresh installation of HPE WBEM Providers, run the following steps after installing HPE WBEM Providers:

  • net stop vmms
  • mofcomp %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsVirtualizationUninstall.mof
  • mofcomp %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsVirtualization.V2.mof
  • net start vmms

This will restore the Msvm_ classes under root\interop namespace that had been overwritten by HPE WBEM Providers.

NOTE:Products sold prior to the November 1, 2015 separation of Hewlett-Packard Company into Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company and HP Inc. may have older product names and model numbers that differ from current models.
