DESCRIPTION

IMPORTANT: This HDD firmware upgrade is considered a critical fix and is required to prevent the issue detailed below. HPE strongly recommends immediate application of this critical fix. Neglecting to perform the required action could leave the server in an unstable condition, which could potentially result in HDD unresponsiveness. By disregarding this notification and not performing the recommended resolution, the customer accepts the risk of incurring future related errors.

In rare instances, there is a risk to data integrity for certain HPE ProLiant and Apollo servers when they are configured with certain HPE 7.2K (8TB/6TB) SATA hard drive models (listed in the scope section below) with drive firmware HPGA (or earlier) installed. This issue was only found in supplier ongoing reliability testing and has not been documented in a production environment.

SCOPE

Any of the HPE ProLiant or Apollo Servers listed under the Hardware Platforms Affected section, configured with the following 7.2K 6G SATA 512e drive models and using drive firmware HPGA (or earlier):

  • MB8000GEQUU
  • MB6000GEQUT

RESOLUTION

To prevent this issue from occurring, upgrade the firmware on 7.2K 6G SATA 512e MB8000GEQUU and MB6000GEQUT drives models to HDD firmware version HPGB(B).

Release Notes

Corrects a potential data integrity issue caused by an in process write retry incorrectly starting at the wrong location. This issue was only found during supplier ongoing reliability testing.
