On an HPE Synergy 3820C 10/20 Gb Converged Network Adapter, enabling SR-IOV and creating virtual functions may lead to performance issues, causing the NIC driver to crash, followed by system unresponsiveness.

This occurs because in the firmware PCIe Function-Level Reset (FLR) flow, classification filters of certain L2 connections, belonging to FLRed functions, were not properly cleaned out.

SCOPE

Any HPE Synergy 3820C 10/20Gb Converged Network Adapter with the following HPE QLogic NX2 10/20 Multifunction Driver versions (these versions are dated "5 feb 2018" in the HPE Support Center):

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 x86_64 - version 7.14.38-1
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 x86_64 - version 7.14.38-1
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 x86_64 - version 7.14.38-1
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 x86_64 - version 7.14.38-1
  • Windows Server x64 Editions - version 7.13.118.0
  • VMware vSphere 6.0 - version 2018.02.12
  • VMware vSphere 6.5 - version 2018.02.12

RESOLUTION

This issue has been corrected in the following HPE QLogic NX2 10/20 Multifunction Driver versions:
