Original Document Release.

An HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen10 server configured with an HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 369i Adapter (LOM Adapter) will not connect to a 100Mb switch. When this occurs, the ports of the network adapter may display as disconnected in the Operating System.

When network speeds of 100Mb/s or 10Mb/s are being connected to the server, the following conditions may be experienced:

  • No network connectivity
  • NIC LED will not illuminate

DETAILS

Any HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen10 server configured with an HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 369i Adapter (LOM Adapter) is affected.

This is working as designed because the HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 369i Adapter (LOM Adapter) can only support 1Gb/s network speed, and cannot support speeds of 100Mb/s and 10Mb/s due to an Intel design limitation.

HPE recommends to set the network speeds to 1Gb/s, and set the switches to Auto-Negotiation.

IMPORTANT:

  • Replacing the system board or updating the firmware will not resolve this issue.
  • There is no need to modify the server's network adapter settings to auto-negotiation or 1Gb/s because 1Gb/s is the only speed supported.
  • The switch settings need to be configured to auto-negotiation mode. If auto-negotiation still does not work, then it should be set to “forced 1Gb/s”.
  • Different switch vendors may provide different instructions for setting auto-negotiation or forced network speed. Two examples of such instructions for HPE switches are provided below:
