DETAILS

Product Description and Definitions

The HPE MSA 2040 Storage array was initially introduced in June 2013 and represented the fourth generation of HPE's Modular Smart Array (MSA) Storage devices. The HPE MSA 2040 storage was the first HPE entry-level disk array to feature 16Gb FC connectivity and the first HPE MSA product to support solid-state drive (SSD) technology in the base system. The HPE MSA 1040, first introduced in March 2014, offered many of the features of the HPE MSA 2040 array at a lower entry-level price point. The HPE MSA 2042, announced in August 2016, featured 800GB of built-in flash and an all-inclusive software model for hybrid storage.

The newer HPE MSA 1050, 2050, and 2052 Storage arrays will become the logical replacements for the older HPE MSA 1040, 2040, and 2042 products.

End of Life and Lifecycle Event Definitions

  • End of Life Announcement (EOL-A): Refers to the EOL announcement date and accompanying documents; for example a customer notice, pertaining to the EOL process from EOL-A through to the EOSL period.
  • End of Life (EOL): Used generically to describe the whole process from EOL to EOSL. The EOL date is also the beginning of the EOL process and defines date from which other phases will begin to track from.
  • Discontinuance (DISC): Orders after this date will be accepted/fulfilled, based on factory inventory.
  • Obsolescence (OBSO): Last day to purchase a SKU (hardware or software), acceptance of order subject to factory availability, prior to OBSO. At the OBSO date, SKUs are physically removed from the HPE Price Lists and ordering systems.
  • End of Support Life (EOSL): HPE Support for the associated said products ends on this date. Typically 5 years past the OBSO date.

Replacement Products and Transitions

Customers can continue to purchase the HPE MSA 1040, 2040, and 2042 Storage arrays until the DISC date of 31 January 2018. Customers should plan any last buy activities to happen BEFORE the DISC date. Once the DISC has been declared, orders will only be accepted based on material availability in the factories.

Customers should transition to the HPE MSA 1050, 2050, and 2052 Storage arrays as soon as possible to avoid product availability issues. The HPE MSA 2050 Storage system delivers 2x higher performance than the HPE MSA 2040 at the same price, delivering in excess of 200,000 IOPS starting at under $10,000 USD for affordable application acceleration. For more information on the HPE MSA 1050, 2050, and 2052, go to: https://hpe.com/storage/msa

Spare parts and product support will continue to be available for a 5-year period after the official declaration of OBSO of the HPE MSA 1040, 2040, and 2042 Storage arrays.

Beginning at the DISC date, no new interoperability items will be added to the HPE MSA 1040, 2040, or 2042 SPOCK compatibility matrix. No new host operating systems, HDD/SSD hardware, drive firmware, HBAs, or other network infrastructure components will be added to the SPOCK matrix. Firmware development will transition to the "sustain only" phase, where only critical security or data integrity issues will be considered for resolution.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise delivers a wide range of primary and secondary storage offerings to meet most any storage need or requirement.
