While installing the Windows Server 1709 Operating System on an HPE ProLiant Gen9 server, the operating system installation stops responding while on the graphics screen displaying the “Hewlett Packard Enterprise” logo page after loading the installation files.


Any HPE ProLiant Gen9 server with Windows Server 1709 Operating System.


This is a known issue to Microsoft and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

A fix for this issue has been documented by Microsoft in a Knowledge Base article, KB 4055537 and can be found as "Microsoft 4055537", posted on the Microsoft website on January 9, 2018: Non-HPE site


KB 4055537, contains instructions for slipstreaming to update to create a new .iso image that will install on affected servers.

KB 4056892, the patch is in the Windows Server 2016 January cumulative update.

If immediate support is required, request assistance directly from Microsoft support and reference to Knowledge Base article KB 4055537.

To contact Microsoft support, refer to: Non-HPE site

- Type 1709 in the dialog box and select either Standard or Datacenter.

- Complete the remaining questions to create a support case in order to receive the update.

Important: This is only an issue with Windows Server 1709 (Semi-annual Channel Release).

Windows Server 2016 builds are not affected by this issue.
