IMPORTANT: This Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Firmware Upgrade is considered a critical fix for certain configurations specified in the Scope section and is required to prevent the issue detailed below. For servers that meet the criteria in the Scope section, HPE strongly recommends immediate application of this critical fix. Neglecting to perform the required action could potentially result in data corruption or loss. By disregarding this notification and not performing the recommended resolution, the customer accepts the risk of incurring future related errors.

In rare instances that require a fairly complex sequence of events, there is a risk to data integrity for the HPE ProLiant and Apollo servers listed in the Scope section when they are configured with an HPE 1.8TB 12G SAS 10K 2.5in SC 512e ENT HDD (model EG1800JFHMH) using drive firmware version HPD5 (or earlier).

For more details, please refer to the drive firmware Release Notes for the version with this fix listed in the Resolution section.

Any HPE ProLiant or Apollo Servers configured with an HPE 1.8TB 12G SAS 10K 2.5in SC 512e ENT Hard Disk Drive (model EG1800JFHMH) and with drive firmware version HPD5 (or earlier) are potentially impacted.

Ensure that all data is backed up before performing the instructions below.

To prevent this issue from occurring, upgrade all EG1800JFHMH drive models on server models specified in the Scope section to HDD firmware version HPD6. Download HPD6 from the links below depending on the operating system installed:

Release Notes

This firmware eliminates a data integrity risk when an unaligned Write and Verify command is sent to a bad sector. During these conditions there is a potential for data intended to be written to disk to fail to be written.
