Release Date: 2016-10-11

Last Updated: 2016-10-11

DESCRIPTION

In-Band SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) services are used for in-band monitoring of system status, based on SES data. This service operates through the data path and can slightly reduce I/O performance. Very few monitoring or software solutions currently use In-Band SES services. HPE is now recommending to disable In-Band SES services.

SCOPE

This issue affects the following products:

  • HPE MSA 2040 SAN Storage
  • HPE MSA 1040 SAN Storage
  • HPE MSA 2042 SAN Storage
  • HP MSA P2000 G3 Array Systems

RESOLUTION

Very few monitoring or software solutions currently use In-Band SES services. In-Band SES can be disabled while the array is online and does not require a reboot. In-Band SES may be disabled using the CLI/telnet or SMU.

  • In the CLI:
    # set protocols ses disabled
  • In SMU (version 3):
In the banner, click system panel > Set Up System Services > Action > deselect In-Band SES Capability > OK
  • In SMU (version 2):
Select Configuration > Services > Management > deselect In-band SES Capability > Apply
