Data protector IDB is split into two parts, MMDB and CDB. MMDB part is holding media information while CDB part catalog information (DCBF files, positions, session information, etc.).

In Data Protector 9.04 this mechanism is not working properly which is causing that CDB records remain in IDB while MMDB records are deleted.

SYMPTOMS

- Old catalog piling up in IDB including DCBFs and session.

- Restore failing when media found in (undeleted) catalog are not found in MMDB.

- Copies are not promoted since the originals are not deleted.

SCOPE

All supported Data Protector Cell Manager platforms, patched with Data Protector v. 9.04_b104 are affected.

CDB sync mechanism in Data Protector 9.04 is functioning properly after SSPNT900_008, SSPLNX900_004 or SSPUX900_004 is applied. It’s highly recommended to install this SSP for all customers patched with Data Protector 9.04.

RESOLUTION

  1. To correct CDB sync mechanism and prevent further synchronization issues, request the below SSPs from HP Support and follow the accompanying instructions.

    For systems patched with Data Protector v. 9.04_b104 the SSP labels are:
    • Windows: SSPNT900_008
    • Linux: SSPLNX900_004
    • HPUX: SSPUX900_004
