Release Date: 2014-11-19

Last Updated: 2014-11-19

The vulnerability has been found in the SSLv3 protocol, which has been assigned CVE-2014-3566 and commonly referred to as 'POODLE'. All implementations of SSLv3 are affected. SSLv3 is by default allowed by Data Protector Application Server. To prevent the possibility of performing this man-in-the-middle attack, the SSLv3 can be disabled and only newer TLS used. TLS is not affected by vulnerability.

This advisory provides information about Data Protector Application Server vulnerability and how to disable SSLv3 fall-back.

Affected Versions:

Data Protector v8.0 and v8.01

Data Protector v8.1, v8.11, v8.12, v8.13

Data Protector v9.0, v9.01

The configuration of Application Server should be changed to disallow SSLv3. This can be done with running Application Server configuration utility:

<DP_HOME_DIR>\AppServer\bin\jboss-cli.[bat|sh] -c command="/subsystem=web/connector=https/ssl=configuration : write-attribute(name=protocol, value=\"TLSv1,TLSv1.1,TLSv1.2\")"

Where <DP_HOME_DIR> is program files location selected during Cell Manager installation on Windows platforms or /opt/omni/AppServer/bin for UNIX Cell Manager platforms. After issuing this command, Data Protector services must be restarted.
