Issue

In Rare scenarios, SPP upgrade might get stuck at 44% while copying root file system image to ramdisk.

Environment

All HPE ProLiant DL/ML Series Server ( Gen 8 and above )

Cause

This may occur if the Intelligent Provisioning is at an older version

Resolution

As a resolution, first upgrade the ilo firmware to latest

(Sequential upgrade is suggested with atleast 1-2 hops in between for smooth process)

Post upgrading ilo firmware, upgrade the BIOS firmware to latest from ilo

Now, upgrade the Intelligent Provisioning image to latest version through ilo virtual media or USB

Once, Intelligent Provisioning is successfully updated, the SPP upgrade process can be re-initiated and this time, it will run smoothly to completion

Note: In Exceptional scenarios, if the Intelligent Provisioning or SPP upgrade gets stuck after BIOS and ilo firmware upgrade, then try clearing NVRAM once and retry the upgrade.

If issue still persists, Motherboard replacement becomes highly necessary to isolate the issue
