General |
|
Name |
SMB file share name. Users and applications use this name to find the file share on the network. For more information on file naming guidelines, see the File naming rules for files and directories. |
Description |
This text field allows the file share creator to describe the purpose of the file share. Descriptions are concise and clear so users can understand whether the file share meets the needs of the user. |
Local Path |
Full or absolute path to a directory on the local system. Composed of one or more pathname components (drive, directories, file separated by the backward slash ( \ ) character. |
Protocol |
File sharing protocol selected for the file share, either SMB or NFS (see, NFS file shares and SMB file shares. |
Volume |
A storage device, such as a fixed disk, formatted to store directories and files. You can divide a large volume into more than one logical volume, also called a partition. |
Quota |
A limit set by a system administrator that restricts the amount of space a file share can use on a shared system. Quotas help to allocate limited disk space in a reasonable way. |
Availability Type |
Displays whether the file share uses high availability (clustered). Defaults to Not Clustered, and is not user configurable. If the HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage reboots or is unavailable, clients are unable to access their data. |
Remote Path |
Remote path to the file share location. Includes the name of the file server and the name of the file share.
|
Settings: With SMB, you can use Access Based Enumeration and encryption to provide additional protection for your data, and caching to improve overall system performance with SMB (see, SMB security and SMB caching). |
|
Access-Based Enumeration |
Access-Based Enumeration (ABE) is a Microsoft SMB feature that filters the files, directories, and resources available on a file share so that a user can see only those objects for which the user has permission. |
Allow caching of share. |
With |
Branch cache |
Branch cache fetches content from your main office or hosted cloud content servers and caches the content at branch office locations. Branch cache allows client computers at branch offices to access the content locally rather than over the WAN. |
Encrypted data access |
SMB Encryption secures data transfers by encrypting data from the beginning of the data transfer to the end. Encryption protects the data against tampering and eavesdropping. |
Share Permissions: Identifies the type of access permission allowed on the selected file share (see, SMB permissions). |
