On an HP ProLiant Gen8 or Gen9 series server configured with any of the network adapters listed in the Scope section below, after updating the adapter firmware with Version 4.0.1.17 of the HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Windows, excessively high fan speed may be observed.

SCOPE

Any HP ProLiant Gen8 or Gen9 series server listed in the Platforms Affected section below and configured with any of the following HPE Network Adapters after updating with the following versions of the HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Windows:

  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331FLR Adapter
  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 332T Adapter
  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 330i Adapter (182D)
  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 330i Adapter (22BD)
  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i Adapter (3372)
  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i Adapter (22BE)
  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i-SPI Adapter
  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331T Adapter
  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 332i Adapter (2133)
  • HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 332i Adapter (22E8)


HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility Versions:

  • Windows: Version 4.0.1.17
  • Linux: Version 2.15.10
  • VMware: Version 1.7.5

IMPORTANT: This issue has only been observed in a Windows environment.

RESOLUTION

To correct this issue, update the adapter firmware using Version 5.0.0.7 (B) of the HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Windows, available for download at the following locations:

IMPORTANT: This issue has only been observed in a Windows environment; however, the Linux Version 2.16.7 and VMware Version 1.14.4 Smart Components containing the updated adapter firmware will become available for download in the June timeframe and will also be available in the next release of Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP).
